About Petaylish

Home

I was inspired to create Petaylish when I received a low grade on an English assignment. According to the teacher the content of the paper was good but there were errors in grammar and formatting. I was very annoyed because what I was trying to say could be understood regardless of those dubious errors. I questioned the complexities of language and decided to make my own, one that could be learned very easily but still be very effective in communicating. I began working on Petaylish during my study halls and at home and eventually made this website. What started on a whim as an act of defiance continues to grow and evolve as a viable means of communicating.

Certain aspects of Petaylish are intentionally similar to English. This was done so that I would be able to learn my own language without investing a great deal of time or effort. However, Petaylish is not so similar to English that it would be especially difficult for speakers of other languages to learn. Furthermore, the English influence on Petaylish is not nearly great enough that Petaylish can be called a dialect of, a simplification of or a code based on English.

Here is the text of the English paper that triggered this project:

Anything Is Possible

“Where there is a will, there is a way” is one of the most optimistic proverbs. It teaches us that whatever our hopes and dreams may be, they can become a reality. This proverb does not necessarily tell us that the things we want to happen will happen but it gives us hope that all things are possible.

Those who believe that this proverb is true may argue that nothing is truly impossible. There are many things that are commonplace today that would have been unthinkable years ago. If one were explain modern technologies to a person who lived two hundred years ago, he or she would respond the same way someone today would if someone told them that time travel was possible. No one can say people will travel through time, but history has shown that no one can say it is impossible.

People who believe in this proverb may also argue that the proverb does not teach that anything you want will definitely happen but that things may happen. For example, if someone were to fall from a fourth storey window the odds for survival are not in their favor. However, this does not mean that they will definitely die. When someone buys a lottery ticket, they will probably not win. However, no one can say that they will not win. If a person tries to survive without water, they will probably fail. Everyone before them who went without water died. However, just because everyone else died, does not necessarily mean they will.

Critics of this proverb may use the pragmatic argument that some things simply are not possible, such as living forever. However, according to quantum mechanics living forever may be possible. Quantum mechanics states that there are an infinite number of universes. If this is true than there will always be some universes in which a person is still alive, even though that number is constantly shrinking. The critics also fail to realize possible future advances in medical technology and the theological perspective of the soul and afterlife.

Opponents can argue that if anything is possible than people should be able to do whatever they want whenever they want, not sometime in the distant future. Anyone can say that someday something may happen, but if one’s will is to make something happen now, and they cannot, the proverb is disproved. The problem with this argument is that the proverb simply states that “where there is a will, there is a way” not how, when or if something will happen.

A final argument of critics may be that if everybody’s hopes and dreams came true then they would conflict with each other. For example, if one person desires peace and another person desires war how can both be realized? Even this apparent contradiction is possible; the war would have to end eventually, resulting in peace.

“Where there is a will, there is a way” is a true statement. Everything, even seemingly impossible paradoxes, is possible. Maybe the things a person wants cannot be attained immediately but it is possible for them to be attained. Not everyone’s dreams will come true, but everyone’s dreams can come true. “Where there is a will, there is a way” not only gives us hope but it gives us an incentive to pursue our dreams.
